by Sonya Riley

The Monuments Men Book is one great story that talks about the history and some untold events during the WWII. In fact, this is written by Robert M. Edsel out of interest in knowing how the cultural artifacts and art pieces were preserved to this time. By his thorough research, he learned about the heroic acts of certain individuals which are depicted in detail in his book.

Just recently, the latest trailer for this movie was released and it will soon hit the theaters in the middle of December. The movie is actually full packed with power casts like Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett who are winning actors and veterans in their own right. What is even more exciting is that this film is directed and produced by George Clooney.

During the World War II, the Nazis took control of most parts of Europe which resulted in damaged structures and items that were considered historical treasures. Because of this, the US Military made a division which was called as the Monuments, Fine Arts and Architecture. This movement was formed by groups of people from different backgrounds such as historians, curators, artists and the like.

The book of Edsel really becomes an eye opener for the public since the characters and the setting of the story is similar from the truth. After reading this, people could have more knowledge on the incidents that have happened during the war. Moreover, they get to learn the importance of protecting and preserving culture and art pieces.

These monuments men are definitely heroes in their own way as they have acquired tons of these artifacts which are stolen by the ruler Hitler. This process may not be easy at all since they have undergone a lot of struggles just to get them back. Moreover, this quest eventually became one of the greatest treasure hunts known in history.

The effects of the war brought about different experiences from the people who have lived in those times. As more structures were damaged, so as the dreams and hopes of the people who have encountered this tragic event. Every person has his or her own tale of how the war has affected their lives in many ways.

It is very fascinating to know that there are actually a group of men and women who have joined forces to protect our history. They could have just live in fear and hid underground but they just chose to do the opposite. Today, we are very thankful for their efforts as we get to enjoy the ancient works of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo.

In fact, they are remembered even today through the Monuments Men Foundation for the preservation of art. Moreover, this aims to honor those who served the organization during the World War II. On the other hand, their foundation empowers everyone to take action to protect cultural artifacts and help recover those that are still missing.

The Monuments Men book is indeed a great masterpiece of Robert Edsel knowing that he is able to unlock the secrets of the past. On the other hand, there still thousands of those treasures that are either ruined or lost brought by the war. And this signals the beginning of a new quest to search for them in the coming years.
