Tips On Abstract Digital Photography

by Angela Briggs

Now that we are in the digital age, you have the opportunity to take much more interesting photographs than you were, before. It is, of course, much easier to take vacation and holiday photographs, too, if you have a digital camera. What is much easier to explore, now, however, is abstract digital photography.

You can make a unique, interesting photography by using different methods and tricks. Something that might usually be ordinary and boring can be experimented with in different ways to bring some fascination to the result. Perspective, to begin with, is one of these ways that you can use.

The subject can be given a different look when the picture has been taken from another angle. You can, here, work on showing the subject in a way that it would not usually be seen in. It could be that this is done when you take the picture from the top or the bottom. A small object can appear large, which can, potentially, change the qualities that are most visible when it appears to be smaller.

Although, of course, it can be much harder to achieve, the reverse is true. Different things appear with different perspectives. However, if you want to play with texture, distance is another thing that will make a different. With a close-up, of course, you are able to see the minute detail of the subject. The beauty of this is that, after a point, it stops looking anything like you are used it looking.

It is entirely a different object through this new view. You also, of course, have color to play with, too. Mood and tone can be manipulated through the use of color, and you can also play with things like focus, here, too. Since this is abstract, realism is not something that you have to adhere to, here, and so you can experiment. A contrast or a mood can be created, here, by matching various different tones.

Things could also be shown in colors that you are not used to seeing on them. This can make a very drastic difference to their usual appearance. Another thing to take a lot at is selective focus, and it, of course, is something specific to working with cameras. With this, you are able to filter through to a specific area of the subject.

You could take things one step further by having the focal point be something that you would not usually focus on, which would create a very different appearance, instead. This focal point is given sharp definition while everything else is left blurry. Color and things can also be applied here, too. Perhaps you could use a different shade for the background, which adds to where you want the focus to be.

Shapes are also a possible instrument, here, too. Using perspective or light, you could change or warp the shape you are looking it. Contrasting shapes are another possibility, and you could work to either emphasize straight lines or curves. To take eye-catching pictures with abstract digital photography, there are a lot of interesting methods that you can use.
