An Australian labradoodle refers to a canine that is generated from a crossbreed among two or three other species of dogs. The canines cross-bred to generate this species are standard Miniatures or Toy Poodles and Labrador Retrievers. This name was originally used in the year 1955, even though it remained un-popular till 1988. In 1988, this species of canines was utilized as allergen-free guide dogs.

The breeding was initially performed in Australia at a location known as Victoria by a dog breeder named Wally Conron. The target of Wally was to get a mixture of the low-shedding coat of Poodles and gentleness and the trainability of Labradors, which would fit individuals with allergies to dander and fur. With the correct coaching, labradoodle can make a good family pet. It handles and accepts everyone within the family as a friend. When happy, it jumps and plays in joy a character that makes it a happy companion. With poor training, some reveal tendencies of hostility. The temperaments of the pet are dependent on factors like training, socialization, and heredity.

When choosing, one should consider a puppy that is average in character. One that does not hide in the corner and does not beat littermates is ideal. Any average puppy will to approach people and allows them to hold and lift them up in their arms. Visiting the mother to study her temperaments can help a lot in choosing a puppy to carry home. If the temperaments of the mother are not pleasing, then it would be advisable to consider other options.

Generally, labradoodles are very healthy, even though they are also susceptible to specific health conditions like other strains. When acquiring a puppy, medical clearances for both the mother and father must be availed to prevent future problems. Among the medical conditions to search for clearance for include elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, allergies, eye infections, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, and ear infections among others.
